bicycle parts...and a story to boot

I've been inspired by my friend Kim to look at everyday things a little more "artistically" so here's my attempt...

And now for the story behind the pictures:

Sunday afternoon (after noticing how quiet the house was--too quiet!) I found the kids all working beautifully together on a "project" in the garage. What was the project, you ask? They thought it would be nice to de-girl-ify Kierstyn's bike so that Trevin could have it. (Kierstyn said, "You know, and then you can get me a new bike for my birthday or for Christmas or something...") Smart girl. Now if you have never attempted to de-girl-ify a bike, let me take you through the process. First you must remove all "girly" stickers. They got lucky that her bike was blue to begin with but the purple flower stickers had to go. That was easy enough. And you might think they would have stopped there but oh, no....Next they decided to remove the hand brakes ("since they don't work anyways"). Of course ALL of my kids LOVE to take things apart especially if it involves the use of multiple screwdrivers so there were nuts and bolts and screws all over the garage floor. That was Sunday. Let me take you now to yesterday...
As the boys continued the football game that they started on Monday, Kierstyn decided to take the bike "project" into her own hands--scary. By the time I descended upon her she had removed one wheel, the entire chain, and countless little parts (who knew a bicycle was made up of so many parts?!) And did she THINK she would be able to put it all back together? I mean, really, WHAT was she thinking??? And why do things like this always happen when Kelly is out of town?

Here is Kierstyn's grubby hand holding some of the evidence of a project gone bad.
Needless to say, she was a little upset about the whole mess.
How exactly does she think Trevin is going to ride this?

Well, that face was just pitiful!
C'mon, she was only trying to help...herself get a new bike. Yep, smart girl. :)

Oh my goodness!! All I can say is sorry and pray that we don't have boys so my girls won't know anything but girly things!! :)

Okay, so your children are just like their daddy. I think i ahve hear mom and dad tell stories about Kelly taking things apart. I think it's so cute that it was their group project to de-girlify Kierstyn's bike.

Kierstyn is one amazing girl!! You better watch out! She is going to go places one day :)

I need to sent Heath down there to help out a little bit. He would love to take things apart. I could just picture it now!
