As requested, here are some pictures of our totally unfabulous landscaping. I don't even know what kind of plants we got--one was a holly, but I don't know about the other one. We went from red mulch to black and I really like the black a lot better with our house (our house is red enough as it is, without red mulch.)
Like I said, nothing too impressive. BUT the fact that we actually came home with some plants and actually planted them is a huge thing for us! We have been staring at the ugly empty spot for way too long wishing someone would just come tell us what to do with it!

I think...the yellow one is a Nandina. We have some and they last through just about any kind of weather and any amount of time without too much water. And some of those plants change colors throughout the year. You'll have to let me know which type you got. Everything looks good...especially the black mulch.
Looks great! I love the black mulch, it just sets off the green of the plants so well!
Wow! I love it! It looks so much better than our overgrown mess out front! I want some red hedges, but first I want to repaint our exterior. Yes, I still have many things I want to do. I wonder how hard it would be to paint my house by myself when Shawn is away next time!!
Good job, Dana! I found my receipt and you were right--the yellow ones are called Firepower Nandina. That's good news that they are pretty indestructible since I am NOT known for my green thumb abilities! Thanks for all the undeserved praise guys. I mean, it's just 4 plants and some black mulch, but I can still be proud, right?
Awesome! I looks fabulous! And I know just what the exterior of your home smells like now ~ that does go away. The most important thing is that you let the kids help ~ HUGE kudos to ya!!
Looks very nice and clean! I also like the black mulch. I always think simple is better, nice choices :)
Doesn't it mean so much more when you do it yourself? Good job!
