Little River Canyon

We took a scenic 11 mile drive through Little River Canyon which was just a stone's throw away from our cabin. Remember that drought we've been having here in Alabama? Well, it was VERY evident on our drive through the canyon. We got out at stop after stop to look down into the canyon.....only to see the lack of water flowing down there. The brochure said that people can kayak on the whitewater here....not now they can't! The kids were patient but even I have to admit that it got kind of boring after awhile.

Kelly spotted a canoe (or what was left of a canoe) down in the canyon. And then....AND THEN....we finally came to something worth talking about: Little River Canyon Falls. And yes, there was actually water!Kelly and the kids walking to the falls...Look, they're right there at the top! Who's going to jump first?! Ha! Ha! Ha!....Hey, I didn't think that was very funny. The kids loved jumping across all the pools of water up at the top and climbing on the rocks. Here is our crazy rocker girl. She is so, so silly. Then rocker girl fell in the water--all wet!Back in the day....in college I took a Geology class and I had to learn the names of all these really boring rocks and minerals and their properties, blah, blah, blah.....But these rocks were really, really neat! I'm sure I knew what kind of rocks they were at one time in my life but thankfully many more interesting facts have filled up that brain space. So I present to you.....LAYERED ROCK:

...still more to come!
