More Food for Thought...

So far, so good! I have been pleased with how well the new meal plan has been received by the kids. Kyler especially has liked having a menu posted so he knows exactly what to expect for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It has helped me a lot, too! There's not as much thinking for me to do every day.

On Tuesday night as Kyler looked at the menu he said, "YES! I can't wait for breakfast tomorrow!" (french toast)

When K & K came home from school on Monday they both said "That sandwich was SO GOOD!" (PBH on homemade bread)

I made the Boston Baked Beans last night and everyone ate them! Next time, I'll just cook 1 lb. (instead of 2). We have A LOT of beans left over! I've never made my own baked beans. I can't believe how easy and good they were.

Tonight was Salmon Patties. I knew this was going to be iffy trying to get my kids to eat this.....but I'm the one who chickened out! I opened the can of salmon, put it in the bowl and I thought I was going to be sick. I just couldn't bring myself to make something that smelled and looked so disgusting. So I dug up a Tuna Patty recipe that I've been wanting to try and made it instead. It was good and the kids all ate it (except Trev). No more Salmon Patties at this house.

I think I'm taking tomorrow night off. We have so many leftover to eat up (beans, meatloaf, mashed potatoes, beans, tuna patties, did I say beans?). I will definitely have 1 or 2 meals carry over into next week!

In other un-related news, we are having a Yard Sale on Saturday and an Open House on Sunday. I postponed cleaning the house until tomorrow (since I figured it would get dirty again anyways) so I will have plenty to do the next 2 days to get ready for our big weekend.

Remind me to tell you about my salmon patty history...

What is your bread recipe? I'm craving some good homemade bread.

I've missed you this week. Both been busy, I'm guessing. I'll look forward to our Sunday School moments.

Good luck at the yard sale and Open House! Don't forget to make sure all the toilets are flushed.
I'm serious.

I'm impressed! I'll have to check out that website. I've been feeling the need to structure my grocery shopping a little more and keep my budget beautiful.

The pictures of Trevin at his
baseball game were adorable.

Make sure the toilets are flushed Dana? I never would have thought of it.

LOL!! I have to laugh because normally I don't follow HHW advice and I clean out the salmon in a strainer until I am satisfied. But, I remember eating fresh salmon a few times and eating the bones because they are edible and extremely high in calcium. So, the first time I made her recipe I used it all!! The skin is high in Omega 3's, and the bones are fine once they are mashed with everything else, but you have to get passed the initial mashing stage first. Then adding the other ingredients is easy.
I love how easy having the menu around has made things as well. I am tempted to get a small dry erase board now and take permanent marker to outline the days/meals and use it regularly instead of having to print out a new menu when I change it out. I am also playing with the idea of making several menus (one at a time) and just rotating them. Anyhoo, I also had to say that I love the bread recipe you posted!! I will try it for sure!!!
