In Sacrament meeting last week our High Council speaker suggested using Family Home Evening to prepare our families for General Conference. So I took his suggestion to heart and last week at FHE we had a quick, simple lesson on what General Conference is, who the church leaders are, etc. I asked the kids to pick one leader to study and they are going to give us a report at FHE tomorrow night. Today after church I made a fill-in-the-blank sheet for them to fill out as they did their "research."
1. Name of leader
2. What church calling does this person have?
3. Where was this person born? How old is he/she?
4. An interesting fact about this person is...
5. What is something that this person has counseled us to do? (something they said at conference or in a church magazine, etc.)
They used the Internet (lds.org) to answer the questions. Kyler was able to do it on his own. Kierstyn only needed a little help. And then (in another stroke of genius), I had Kyler help Trevin do his. :) It was fun to see what they thought was interesting about each person they chose. I am excited for us to learn a little more about 3 church leaders at FHE tomorrow night and hopefully the kids will have a special interest in each of these speakers when they talk at Conference next week.
