Winning Recipes (at our house, at least)

I know when I'm searching for new recipes I really appreciate the tried and true ones. You know, the recipes that someone I know has actually made and can recommend to me. So I just wanted to post a few "winners" I've made lately (all stolen from other blogs of course).

I also want to mention that we are continuing to eat from our pantry, freezer, and fridge the entire month of January (with the exception of milk, eggs, yogurt, and a few fresh produce items). So far, so good. I have a lot of food "lurking" around that it is nice to finally use up. It has also helped me reassess what I need to store more of.

Last night I used the last of the precooked ground turkey in my freezer and canned beans for chili. But what I really want to tell you about are these sinfully delicious Sharp Cheddar Snack Sticks. I say sinfully delicious because I am totally embarrassed to admit how many of these I ate. So I won't tell you. TRUST ME--THEY ARE SO GOOD!!!

A couple of other things I've tried lately and my family has liked are: 59 Diner Buttermilk Pancakes, Salsa Chicken and Black Bean Soup and Hope's 7-Grain Flour Tortillas.

One more thing.....on Christmas Eve Day we made this hot drink. It simmered on the stove all day and we sipped on it all day long. It came from the Friend (children's church magazine). Everyone loved it! (It makes A LOT!!!)

Holiday Party Drink
3 c. sugar
12 oz. frozen orange juice concentrate, thawed
1 1/2 c. lemon juice
2 tsp. vanilla
1 T. almond extract
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. cloves
5 quarts water

Combine all ingredients in a large pot. Heat but do not boil. Serve warm.

What have you tried lately that your family liked?

I want to try those cheddar sticks! I'm always impressed with your cooking :) Homemade pizza is about the extent of cooking that's gone on at our house lately :)

Yesterday morning I made the pancakes...they are great, thanks so much for sharing!! I have several pancake recipes that I use, but they're all just ok. I really liked this recipe because the pancakes turned out slightly flat, not as puffy and bready as the recipes I already have. So thanks! And I will have to try those cheddar sticks, yum.
