Oh what a day!

I was able to go with the youth down to the temple in Atlanta today. We had a great time and the weather turned out beautiful for our picnic lunch afterwards. I really enjoyed the ride down and the time in the car with the girls.

Unfortunately our trip back wasn't quite as fun. Five miles away from the temple my car decided to poop out on me. I could get up to 55 mph and then the gear got stuck and the engine was running hard at 4o00rpms. It didn't feel right and I knew it immediately. We pulled off at the first exit and checked the transmission fluid. We had plenty so we thought maybe it was a fluke and we'd try it again. Back onto the Interstate and the same thing. We are 2 hours from home and I have 4 of the Young Women and another YW leader with me. I'm starting to think this could be a very long afternoon. We pulled off again and called the other 2 cars (with the men and boys) and told them the situation. They had taken off without us and were almost 20-30 miles away so we had to wait for them to turn around and come back. (I hope they learned their lesson and won't take off and leave us ladies again!)

After much debate, we decided that one of the men would drive my car home (slowly....hoping my car would make it driving at a slower speed) while I drove his car with all the girls so we could get them home. Long story short (sort of).....he made it all the way to Dalton and didn't feel he should go any further so he parked it at a gas station and he hopped in the other car which had been following him. Luckily (if you want to look at it that way), Kelly has a forklift shop in Dalton so he was able to call their driver and get it towed to their shop for their mechanic to look at it on Monday. Of course Kelly has been on the computer all night researching it and it doesn't look good. Looks likely that I'm going to need a whole new transmission. And to think....I had other plans for that tax refund! Grrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

While I was gone today Kelly took Trevin to baseball tryouts (skills evaluation) and they all enjoyed a fun day playing outside and getting sunburned! Kelly is coaching Trevin's team. :)

After I got home we decided to forget about the whole car ordeal for a couple of hours and we headed downtown for dinner and walked across the bridge for ice cream. It was sooooooo nice to be outside enjoying this weather. And oh how I love this city I live in!

So sad about your car. Hopefully it's not as bad as it looks now. Glad you were able to get out to take your mind off things and enjoy your awesome city!

Funny, the same thing happened to me Monday going to pick up the kids from school. Transmission. And it was the only day I have ever forgotten my cell phone. Thank goodness it is only 10 minutes form the house. I sure did make a lot of people mad behind me though going 35 mph!

Part of our tax refund went to emergency auto repairs also... for us it was brakes, and a complete overhaul of the WHOLE system! very costly! ugh! but yes we got our return the day the car went into the shop...
