As I mentioned last week, I've been spending a lot of time working in the yard. I can't help it--I just love this Spring weather and I love to be outside in it.
Last year I attempted square foot gardening and although it wasn't a total flop, my success was definitely minimal. This year I just didn't have to heart to try again (maybe next year) so I decided to focus my energy into flowers. I went to my favorite nursery and spent way too much money on these GORGEOUS Boston ferns (I don't care how much they cost....they were worth every penny) and lots of flowers. Here's a look-see at the new and improved front of my house. a close upI found these red buckets last year on sale at Walmart for $2 each....and promptly snatched them up. I think they look perfect on my front steps. One of my Spring Break projects was making these flower boxes. I had no idea what I was doing; just grabbed some extra wood we had laying around and started cutting/drilling/screwing. Kyler helped me. We added a coat of black paint and called it good. They're very simple but I'm pretty proud of how they turned out.I also transplanted a few bulbs that were already planted in the yard and then planted 200 more! Hopefully I'll have beautiful flower pictures to post this summer.
We still need to get a fence to put around the a/c unit (where we removed 4 GINORMOUS bushes) and mulch the flower beds but things are lookin' good!

LOVE it all!! The ferns, the red buckets with the flowers spilling over and the planters! Looks beautiful!
You are going to be so thrilled with your b.ferns. They are hardy and wonderful. I even plop them in my window boxes and they thrive. They are ALWAYS on my front porch... so low maintenance. The buckets are fabulous! Your house is so nice, lovely curb appeal!!!
Excellent ~ neglected to mention that yesterday. As I passed your now flowering custom-made planters on your porch I wanted to compliment you on them - however, by the time I got into the house. . .I FORGOT. . . imagine that?!?!? ALL looks super-duper awesome!!
