Boca/Key Biscayne

How lucky am I?! 2 trips to the beach in as many months! Kelly had a Toyota conference in Key Biscayne, FL, so we decided to pull the kids out of school and make it a family vacation. :) We were able to visit with Kelly's uncle and his family in Boca Raton for a couple of days before we headed out to Key Biscayne.

Trevin and Kierstyn have been especially excited about this trip because neither one of them can remember being on an airplane (they've both flown before but they were too little to remember). While waiting to board our plane in Atlanta we got our first glimpse of an interesting fellow passenger....with her birds! (Who travels with birds?!)

I told you he was excited to fly! :)

While in Boca we visited The Gumbo Limbo Nature Center (thanks for the tour, Cody!), stuck our toes in the sand, took the kids swimming at the Y (they had an awesome waterslide), sipped coconut juice, devoured DeDe's famous hot breakfast, and ate yummy New York pizza with Brad. The boys also got (expensive) haircuts at Joe and Mario's Barber Shop.

On Saturday we drove down through Miami (CrAzY!) to Key Biscayne and discovered empanadas-yum! We stayed at the Ritz-Carton but I guess we're turning into hotel (and beach) snobs because we weren't all that impressed. Nice, yes. But waaaaaaay overpriced for what you got. And the beach? Ewww. Give me Destin (or Hawaii!!) any day. The kids had fun playing at the beach a little and swimming at the pool a lot.

The kids and I were really glad that DeDe and Denver came down for a day to play with us, too. Fun times!
