Well, now that we're officially in the swing of things with school I thought I'd post an update about how each of the kids is doing...
Kyler is in 4th grade and he has Mrs. Rhodes. Not who he wanted originally (he said, "She yells in the lunchroom.") but he seems to like her just fine. This is his 3rd year in a row at the same school!!!--amazing since he went to a different school each year for the first 3 years of his school career. He has several friends in his class from last year and it is just fun for me to see how comfortable he is at school. He's a little "girl crazy" as of late (well, actually there's just this one girl). I can't believe it starts so young! I think 4th grade is going to be a little harder judging from the first set of graded papers we got back this week. We had to have a little talk about not being in such a hurry to finish your work and being more careful (checking your work when you're done). School has always been easy for Kyler so I think it's good that this year might be a bit more of a challenge for him. That's how we learn, right?
Kierstyn is in 1st grade and she has Mrs. Arnold. Also not who she wanted but I am very, very impressed with her. She is a Teacher of the Year award winner with a lot of teaching experience...yet she is energetic and fun, too. Just what Kierstyn needs. Kierstyn is no longer the oldest one in her class (there are 2 kids who are already 7...I think this may be their second year in 1st grade). The phonics work that she is doing is still SO far below her level but I guess it will be good for her to learn the system, blah, blah, blah. Of course she is reading up a storm...she is devouring Magic Tree House Books now. She complains that school is boring but I have high hopes that eventally she will be challenged enough so that this year will be better for her.
Trevin is going to Preschool 3 days a week at the same school he went to last year AND with the same teacher. He is doing really well and he looks forward to going to school (big Yay!) every day. I am going to attempt to do a little Joy School with him one day a week....we started this week and it was so much fun. We talked about our bodies--Heavenly Father gave us this wonderful creation, all the ways we can move, body parts, etc. We went to the library and his favorite book is one that has real (gross) pictures of the insides of our body (brain, heart, lungs, kidneys, etc.) Maybe he'll want to be a doctor when he grows up...
I am so grateful for the good school experiences that we have had already this year and especially for the wonderful ladies who spend their days teaching my children.
