Kyler,
On the day you were born......
(I have to remember back 10 long years for this one.)
We were living in Burley, ID, in Al and Debbie's basement apartment. It was Saturday. Kelly left mid-morning to go to Twin Falls (40 min. away) to umpire a baseball game. Before he left I told him my body was feeling kind of weird. This was my first baby, after all, and I didn't know what the heck my body was supposed to be doing/feeling/etc. He wondered if he should stay home but I told him to go on, it was probably nothing. And besides, this baby wasn't due to make his/her (we didn't even have an ultrasound!) arrival for another 10 days. Everybody knows that your first baby doesn't come early, right?!
Well, by noon, I was still feeling weird and I couldn't figure out what was going on. I finally called my friend Jenny and we decided that I should go to the hospital just to be sure. I don't know how I got ahold of Kelly (0r did I?)--this was long before either of us owned cell phones. I went to the hospital where they told me that my water was "leaking" (who knew?!)and I was there to stay. Kelly did make it back by around 2:00 or so. I don't remember too much except that it didn't really start to hurt til about 6:00. And then it still took forever for that baby to come out! Keep in mind that I am one of those crazy people who likes to deliver their babies without epidurals. :) I know I pushed for close to 2 hours (it might have been longer) and they finally had to use the vacuum suction thingie to get him out. And that was at 10:54pm! Talk about a long delivery. All that work just to get a teeny little thing out---Kyler was only 5 pounds 11 ounces. That may seem small, but let me tell you, that was plenty big for my first baby! I don't know if they could have gotten him out if he was any bigger!!! His toes and fingers looked so long (since he was sooooo skinny). He was born just an hour before Easter Sunday. I came home the next day (Easter) around 6:00pm and got to eat the yummy dinner that my mil had made. Kyler was the first grandchild on both sides so he was more than a little loved, cuddled, adored, etc. by everyone! You should see how many pictures I have of him as a baby!

Happy Birthday, Kyler.

Oh, my, the memories! I just got home from holding Kyler's newest cousin, Ethan, who is a week old. Kyler, as the first of now 17 grandchildren, you still hold a special place as THE FIRST! That comes as NO surprise to anyone! Thanks for 10 wonderful years and we all look forward to more wonderful years with wonderful Kyler!
Looking back I am sorry that we all bombarded you right after you had him. I remember that Easter dinner and also remember his first bath and him having to be under the light. He was such a little thing. I had no idea that your labor was so bad no wonder you were so sore and tired. I also remember you sitting in your recliner and Kelly coming up to you and rubbing your shoulders and you saying something like, "Don't even think about it." :) You can blame/thank me for all the pictures of Kyler I think we all know that too. Kyler will always be that cute, chubby, funny three year old to me.
I don't think there is anytihng CRAZY about your delivery, other than it was long and you probably spent a lot of time in the bed... You did a great job, and who would have thought he was ever so small!
Oh, what can happen in 10 years. I'm impressed you remembered so well the events of Kyler's birth. Way to go. Happy Birthday KYLER!
