Thanks to my trip to Oregon earlier this summer and a search for a certain episode of The Smurfs, I can't sit down at my sewing machine without this song running through my head!--Thanks Jessi B.! :)
This summer I've had a chance to do a bit of sewing. First, for Trevin's classroom makeover I made curtains, pillows and chair covers...but of course I forgot to take pictures. Then I decided to make new pillows for my front porch. And then there's the whole matter of Kierstyn's new obsession with my sewing machine and my box of leftover fabric. I think she's made 20+ pillows this summer mostly for her lucky cousins and even a couple of blankets. I took a few pictures of her when she was making Heath's birthday present.
And here he is all snuggled up with it--cute!She also fashioned herself a hip little headband...and belt. You should know that I am by no means a seamstress. Straight lines are pretty much the extent of my sewing ability. Last week, however, I was inspired by the cute dress that Alisha made for her little girl so I followed the tutorial link and whipped one up for Kierstyn. It was seriously so easy. And I even learned how to do two new things: gathering stitches and making my own bias tape. There are a few things I will do differently next time but I think it turned out pretty cute for my first one.
That was so much fun that I decided to put my new-found gathering stitch skills to even more use and make a tiered skirt using this tutorial.
The best part is that I have just been using up scraps of leftover fabric so they are completely free! Not to mention the fact that I have one happy little girl.I can't wait to dig into my box of "leftovers" and get started on the next one!

Oh and BTW to answer your question... we are moving to GA. Did you guys live there for a while? Michael got a job with KIA in West Point but we are looking at Columbus or Newnan to live.
Your front porch looks so friendly! It just wants to be lounged on. And I loved Kiersten's modeling pictures, she's so cute. And the clothes! Adorable!! Really. Now I'M going to be visiting YOUR blog entries for inspiration.
You amaze me! I can't believe all of your sewing projects, so cute! Remember the fun days we spent sewing your bags...now it's my turn for a few lessons, when can you come over??? Kierstyn is adorable!
Oh. my. goodness. That dress is so stinkin cute. I need to go to the fabric store right now.
All I can say . . . I am SEW inspired! Thank you!
I' like you... strait lines, and I'm good. I really want to try the twirl skirt, so cute! I love how you patchworked the bottom layer - I hope you don't mind copycatting! :)
Just the craftiness that comes out of you two!!! And Heath sleeps with his pillow and blanket every single night!!!
I love that you are teaching her to sew. I really wish my mom had taught me. I can barely sew a straight line. I would love to teach Skip but I don't have the patience just yet.
