I'm going to try again to do what I did last year: eat from our food storage the entire month of January (with the exception of milk, yogurt, eggs, and a few fresh veggies). I'm not quite as excited as I was last year so I hope I can keep this up all month. :)
So far this is what we've eaten:
1-pigs in blanket, brocolli cheese dip w/tortilla chips, fruit smoothies
2-homemade mac-n-cheese w/ham
3-spaghetti, green beans, garlic cheese toast buns
4-ham sandwiches on homemade oatmeal rolls, carrots
5-chicken-pinenut-green onion pizza on whole wheat crust
6-chicken and rice soup, oatmeal rolls
7-fried rice w/ham, egg, and peas
8-taco salad
9-leftovers
10-Brunswick stew or chicken and rice soup, oatmeal rolls
Total spent at the grocery store so far in January: $21.22
3 gallons of milk
16 oz. sour cream
18 ct. eggs
8 oz. cream cheese
1 bunch green onions
1 bag salad
8# potatoes
I have made a couple big batches of rice and cooked 2 crockpots full of beans.....looks like we might be eating a lot of those the rest of the month since my stockpile is not what it should be. I'm off to make bread now!

I'm going to go back at look at your posts from last year. I remember being crazy impressed with what you accomplished. I would love to save more money from my food budget. Thanks for the reminder and inspiration!
You can do it, you can do it, you can!!
You go girl!
(Was my comment a high school flashback or what?!!)
How do you get your kids on board for this??? I've been trying to not buy quite so much and to use some of what I have on hand... My kids have been whining, that there is NO food in our house to eat!
I love doing this every few months!! It reminds me how wonderful it is to have our food storage!! And how important it is to keep variety in there! Keep it up!
Wow. That's pretty amazing. Did you get my late text? My phone has stopped beeping to alert me when I get texts and I cannot figure out how to fix it. Please don't forget us next time!
You are doing much better than I am! Way to go!
That is pretty impressive. I still love your chicken soup recipe. It is tried and true. Good luck.
amazing. I wish I had the motivation to do this. We need to clean out but I keep buying quick fixes instead of doing the hard work!
Just checking in. Good luck with your goal, I'm not bold enough to do such a thing. Thanks for the Christmas card - what a dang, cute family.
blog the recipe for oatmeal rolls
please...
I wish I could do this. I am sure I could if I could unattach some small children from me. You should make homemade tortillas to go with your stockpile of beans.
