a few house projects...

Now that I have more time at home I find myself thinking endlessly about how to decorate. Which is scary, considering the fact that I have absolutely. no. decorating. talent.
However, we/I finally attempted a couple projects and I'm very happy with them. (I'm not posting about the failed Valentines wreath, but trust me, it was a disaster.)

First up, a cute Valentine project I found here. I went to the Dollar Tree and bought 4 frames ($1 each, of course!), clear marbles, and scrapbook paper. I came home, spray painted the frames and glued the marbles to the frame. Seriously so easy, cheap...and cute, too. (And now I have one Valentines Day decoration.) Total cost for the project: $7
Our beloved tapa cloth. It was a gift to Kelly from a dear Polynesian friend that Kelly met when he was in High School. We have hung it in (almost) every house we've lived in but I couldn't figure out where to hang it here. I was also having a major mantle dilemma (what to put on the mantle????) when it came to me....how about making a frame for the tapa cloth and hanging it above the fireplace? Kelly built a frame and we stapled the tapa cloth and waaa laaaa!
I used to love red (see wall on above photo). Now I am in love with green. I haven't had the nerve to tell Kelly that I want to paint the red wall green yet so I decided to introduce my new favorite color in a smaller, more subtle way.....so I made a new table runner. I also used another very popular crafting material (I've seen it everywhere lately)--burlap.

Curtains for the living room are next on my to-do list......

Loooove it-the tappa cloth! And you know my thoughts on green! You made that table runner, yes of course you did. I think one would look perfect in my dining room :)

Geez-louise!! Awesome!! LOVE the tapa cloth - miss the kids pictures, but love the tapa cloth. Helaman would be pleased! Fabulous. And you XOXO's . . . precious! Fun project for any age, huh? I'm in the same boat - I want so badly to change the red in my kitchen, ready for something "softer". However, I know it would go over like a lead balloon!

Jenn-
That is too funny! I too have a red wall and have been telling Michael that I want to "re-do" our living room and paint it green. He was quick to point out that the red wall took four coats of paint and is only 3 years old. I like your idea of slowly introducing the idea! Let me know how it works out - I may have to try it as well!

No decorating talent, eh? The valentines decoration is seriously cute. I find my color taste changes a bit too. Remember my burnt orange kitchen that went gray-blue? Yeah.
